The only thing this site collects is an email address, and only if you choose to give it. It comes to me. It is never sold, and it is never handed to anyone else.
1What this site collects
Your email address, if you sign up to hear when the book is out. That is all.
No name field, no phone number, no hidden questions. If you did not type it in, this site does not have it.
2What I use it for
To write to you: when the book has a release date, when it is available, and now and then in between when there is something worth saying.
It is a list for readers, not a funnel. I would rather write to a few hundred people who actually want to hear from me than a few thousand who do not.
3What I never do with it
I do not sell your address. I do not rent it, trade it, or swap lists with other authors or publishers.
I do not upload it to Facebook or anywhere else to build an advertising audience. There are no advertising or tracking pixels on this site, so nothing here follows you anywhere after you leave.
4Who handles your email address
Kit, the email platform formerly called ConvertKit, holds the list and sends the emails. When you sign up, your address goes to Kit and lives on their servers under their privacy policy.Netlify hosts this website.Those two, and my own email account. Nobody else.
5No analytics, no pixels
This site runs no analytics at all. No Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no heatmaps, no third-party trackers of any kind.
The site sets no cookies of its own. Kit may set one when you submit the signup form so it can tell a repeat submission from a new one.
That is genuinely unusual, so it is worth saying rather than leaving you to assume otherwise. Nobody is watching which paragraphs you read.
6What this page loads from elsewhere
A few pieces of this page come from other companies, which means your browser reaches out to them and they can see your IP address:
- Google Fonts, for the typefaces. Most policies leave this out, so plainly: Google's font servers see every visitor's IP address.
- Cloudflare, for the small icons.
- Kit, at the moment you submit the form and not a second before.
7How long I keep it
As long as you want to be on the list. If you unsubscribe, you come off it.
If I ever stop writing the list altogether, I delete it rather than pass it on to anyone.
8Leaving the list
Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click, and you are off. No survey asking why, no screen trying to change your mind.
If you would rather your address be deleted outright instead of just marked unsubscribed, reply and say so, and it will be.
9Writing to me directly
If you email me at the address on this site, I have your message the way anyone has an email someone sent them. It sits in my inbox. It does not get added to the mailing list, and it does not go anywhere else.
Notes from readers are read by me and not shared.
10Children
This site is written for adult readers and is not directed at children. I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
11Readers outside the United States
I write from Charlotte, North Carolina, and this site is hosted in the United States. If you sign up from somewhere else, your address is handled here, under United States law.
12Changes
When the book launches this site will grow, and this page will be updated to match what it actually does then. The date at the top is how you know when that happened.
